Peter Rosen to Develop Documentary Film on New American Opera

Nautilus Film Project, LLC, led by David Smith and Bob Beverage, have engaged award-winning documentary filmmaker Peter Rosen to develop a new documentary film on new American opera. This will be a multi-year project and will showcase the development process behind the creation of bold and innovative new works. Leading composers, librettists, conductors, and producers will be involved in the production.

Lullaby for Vaska selected for Concert for Peace on New Year’s Eve at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City

Lullaby for Vaska, a collaboration between composer Joseph Turrin and poet David Smith, has been selected for the 2022 Concert for Peace at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. The performance will be on New Year’s Eve and will be conducted by Music Director Kent Tritle. The evening will be hosted by Harry Smith, longtime television host on CBS.
The annual New Year’s Eve Concert for Peace was begun by Leonard Bernstein in the 1980s.

NORMAN! Producer Showcase Planned for Late 2021

MINNEAPOLIS: The creative team developing NORMAN!, a musical theater parody of the classic Hitchcock film Psycho, has announced that they expect to perform a showcase for producers in November 2021. Rehearsals and private readings of the show have been underway since April 2021 to enable the creative team to make adjustments to fine tune the production.
The creative team behind NORMAN! includes writer David Smith, composer Kelly Krebs, stage director Eric Morris, and music director Sonja Thompson.
NORMAN! is a musical theater parody of the classic Hitchcock film Psycho that explores all aspects of the bizarre relationship between Norman Bates and his Mother. Smith and Krebs began work on the show in 2018 in connection with their participation in the Nautilus Music-Theater’s Composer-Librettist Studio in St. Paul under the direction of Ben Krywosz.
Sonja Thompson Joins Creative Team for NORMAN! as Music Director

MINNEAPOLIS: Writer David Smith and Composer Kelly Krebs announced today that Sonja Thompson has joined the creative team developing NORMAN!, their musical theater parody of the Hitchcock film Psycho. Thompson has been a teacher and performer for many years and recently retired from the faculty of the Music Department at Augsburg University. She has extensive background in all musical forms and is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music.

Eric Morris Joins Creative Team for NORMAN! as Stage Director

MINNEAPOLIS: Writer David Smith and Composer Kelly Krebs announced today that Eric Morris has joined the creative team developing NORMAN!, their musical theater parody of the classic Hitchcock film Psycho. Morris has been a director and performer for many years in the Twin Cities and throughout the Midwest. He is currently also Producing Artistic Director at Old Log Theater in Excelsior, Minnesota. Morris has an extensive background in musical theater and in directing fast-paced comedies and farces.
